On May 12, Canada’s Immigration Minister, Marco Mendicino, gave a major speech on “Modernizing Canada’s Immigration System.”
The minister introduced Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023 in late October. To aid the country’s post-coronavirus economic recovery, the country seeks the largest levels of immigration in its history. Canada is currently planning to accept at least 401,000 immigrants every year, and preliminary data indicate that this goal will be met in 2021.
Canada must eliminate paper-based applications in the future, according to Mendicino. Paper applications can slow the process and are outdated.
Applicants will soon be able to submit their applications online and follow the progress. International students, for example, will need to fill out one single online application. Online oaths will be available to new Canadian citizens.
Last month, the Canadian government announced that it will invest about $430 million to update its IT infrastructure. IRCC will be able to process applications considerably more quickly as a result of the investment.
