Amateur Athletes and their accompanying personnel will be able to enter Canada without having to go through the requirements of mandatory isolation.

Canada is attempting to make traveling to the country easier for amateur athletes. This group of people as well as their supporting personnel may be exempted from Covid – 19 travel restrictions and the 14 days of mandatory quarantine if they need to participate in an international individual sports event.

To be eligible, athletes need to have the intention of taking part in an international single sporting event and be associated with a sports organization. An American weight lifter, for instance, needs to be affiliated with the weight lifting organization of the U.S. Other people playing a significant role in this event should be affiliated with an organization as well.

Furthermore, the amateur athlete and the supporting personnel are required to have an authorization letter from the Deputy Minister of Canadian Heritage to prove that they will be attending the sports event. The organization responsible for this event will apply for this authorization letter.

It is worth mentioning that the authorization letter is not the only requirement of traveling to Canada. Foreign citizens need to apply for a Temporary Residence Visa (TRV) or Electronic travel authorization (eTA).

The above-mentioned individuals will be allowed to enter the country only if they meet the requirements for entry. For example, if you are showing symptoms of Covid-19 or if you have a prior criminal record, you will be prevented from entering Canada. The immigration officer will make the final decision about this matter.
