Some immigrants will be excused from medical examinations in Canada for the time being.
In some cases, foreign nationals in Canada may not be required to take a medical exam as part of their immigration form.
Applicants for permanent residency or a permanent resident visa must generally present an immigration medical exam or a specialized medical identity number from a prior medical test when registering for permanent resident status or a permanent resident visa.
The new law affects foreign citizens living in Canada who:
- have not undergone a fresh immigration medical exam since applying for permanent residence;
- have undergone a medical examination within the last five years and been determined to present no risk to public health or safety, or have concurred with a duty to report to health authorities for monitoring;
- and have not spent over six months in the previous year living in a country on the federal government’s list of countries necessitating an immigration medical examination.
If applicants’ family members satisfy the conditions mentioned above and live in Canada, they may also be eligible under this temporary governmental policy.
The policy is currently in force and will remain so until December 28, 2021.
According to IRCC The new regulation will shorten the time it takes to process immigration applications, enabling more temporary residents to obtain permanent residency.
